A Quantitative Study on the Effect of Rotation Rate on Radiation Heat Transfer in a Rotary Drum

Rotary drums are used in industries such as cement, pharmaceuticals, and other particulate sectors; thus, research on various parameters will increase operating efficiency and lead to enormous energy savings around the world. The current study focused on the effect of rotation rate on radiation heat transfer inside a rotary drum. The rotation rate was varied from 2-10 RPM with 2 mm silica beads heating in the drum. It was observed that as the rotation rate increased, the core temperature increased as well with a smaller core size. The difference in particle bed temperature also decreased with a higher rotation rate.
