The goal of this project is to implement regression models for predicting the likelihood of a freshman student in the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering to return in the following spring semester. This research is built off the analysis done by Arafat and Pedroza in the spring of 2018. The models that are being created will be used by the ASU advising team to identify students that are at risk of not returning to the Fulton Schools. The prediction value can facilitate the advising team in concentrating their efforts.
The primary objective of this research project is to increase freshman retention at the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering. The research team will endeavor to analyze and refine the linear regression models created by Arafat and Pedroza in the spring of 2018. The models are designed to identify freshman students who have a high probability of leaving the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering. This will enable the ASU advising department to focus their efforts to retain these students. In addition to analyzing the existing models, the team will also investigate by creating non-linear models for identifying at-risk students.
