Effect of Durability on Multiscale Properties of Interphase and Delamination Using AFM and Novel Facture Toughness Characterization Techniques on Carbon Fiber Samples Under Accelerated Aging Conditions for up to 7 YearsComposites are known for their outstanding wear resistance, excellent mechanical performance-to-weight ratio, and high thermal resistance. However, the performance of a composite depends on several factors including loading stress and temperature. In this project, the effects of accelerated aging conditions mimicking 60 years of use on carbon fiber’s durability and delamination are studied through reading top research articles, mechanical testing, and examining the mechanical properties of the interphases at the nanoscale using atomic force microscopy (AFM).
