Virtual Testing to Determine the Behavior of Orthotropic Materials

Composites are gaining popularity in the aerospace, automotive, and civil industries since their properties are attractive for products in these fields. The focus of this research is to develop a virtual testing framework that could be used as a predictive tool to characterize the behavior of structural composites including failure so that future designs using composites can be optimized to avoid catastrophic failures. This will be achieved by generating a failure surface through numerical simulation in LS DYNA, a finite element commercial software.
