3D Printing of Iron Oxide Based Anode with Bioinspired Structures for Lithium-Ion Batteries

Lithium-ion batteries (LIB) have become an attractive power source for a variety of electronic devices due to lightweight, high energy density, and multiple recharge capability. Conventional nanomaterial fabrication methods of LIBs anodes encounter a bottleneck in controlling geometric morphologies of microstructures, and such limitation causes low energy densities and converting efficiencies. This proposed research is motivated to address the current manufacturing challenge of LIBs anodes by using a novel 3D printing approach. In this fall semester, multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) based nanocomposite was successfully fabricated with bioinspired microscale architectures by magnetically assisted 3D-projection-based stereolithography (MF-SLA) for high electrical conductivity.
