System Dynamics Modeling of Direct Air Carbon Capture (DAC) ConfigurationsBy creating a techno-economic system dynamics model, the researcher is studying the scaling of Direct Air Carbon Capture (DAC) — an early-stage technology for addressing climate change. The two central research goals are: 1) to identify the optimal role of DAC within the portfolio of negative emissions technologies and 2) to study the potential impact of policy and investment levers on DAC scaling. Built using VenSim system dynamics modeling software, the model includes quantitative relationships between DAC capacity, the cost of sequestering a ton of CO2, land and energy demand, and capital investment.
