It is believed that a relationship exists between the cooling rates of molten glass and properties during high pressure shock. To test the hypothesis, LAMMPS molecular dynamic simulations was carried out on glass. The glass was melted, cooled at different rates, then subjected to shocks of various pressures. From experiment no statistically significant relationship was seen, but there was a general trend favoring higher pressures under shocks with shorter cooling times. Indicating more energy dissipation and better design factors for hypervelocity ballistic shield systems. More experiments will need to be carried out to determine if a significant relationship exists.
