Using 1H MRI Reporter S-Gal® to Study Senescent and Quiescent Cells In Vitro

One issue with chemotherapy is that, because cell metabolism is targeted, some cells in quiescent or senescent states in which their metabolic pathways are slowed are unable to be killed. This research is to test if quiescent or senescent cells can be identified and characterized in vitro via the 1H MRI reporter S-Gal. Proliferating, quiescent, and senescent cells will be stained with S-Gal and FAC and imaged using 1H MRI. This research should be followed by in vivo experiments on cancer tumors to identify the process’s validity and usefulness in chemotherapy.
