Providing Comprehensive Therapy for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder by Using a Virtual Reality Application

The research question that this project seeks to address, is the following. Is it possible to create an immersive virtual reality system for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), capable of providing a sense of presence? If we are able to determine that this is possible, the solution will help us determine the level of efficiency and reliability for speech, behavioral, and cognitive therapies through the application of virtual reality. This is important because it may provide a means for the ASD population to attain consistent therapy as needed in order to further develop their social, cognitive, behavioral, and speech capabilities. Furthermore, if it is possible to integrate biosensors into a VR system, we may be able to create a more real-life immersive experience.
