Preparing a method to measure near field radiative heat transfer between two surfaces

Energy icon, disabled. An orange lightning bolt.
The following research project involves preparing a method to measure near field radiative heat transfer between two surfaces, and then extracting real data measurements of such heat transfer. This will be done through a complex system in which the deflection of a sphere tipped bi-material cantilever will be tracked as it transfers heat to a plate at a very close distance from it. Thermodynamic relations between the energy being transmitted to the beam and the deflection of the beam will provide the actual quantity of heat being transferred. As of now, the research is currently at the calibration phase, which is necessary before actual data recording can be performed.
