Preliminary Steps to a Micropipette-based Automated Patch Clamping System

This research project is focused on creating an improved method of automated patch clamping (APC), a technique used to record electrical activity of neurons. Current automated systems use temporal resistance measurements or visual components to locate and target cells of interest. However, these methods have not yet demonstrated a viable increase in recording efficiency over the expertise of a manual electrophysiologist-controlled system. This work aims to introduce novel imaging techniques and specialized data processing algorithms to increase ease of cell location and a create a higher throughput APC system.
