Heavy Hydrocarbon Removal using Ozonation Techniques

The objective of the research was to study the efficiency of heavy hydrocarbon removal using ozone gas. The research determined that doses of ozone gas in the soil can break down long-carbon chains into forms that are easily digestible by bacteria in the soil. By helping define the most effective loading rates and dosages, this research will be used to develop a field deployment unit that will be used to remediate contaminated soil in situ. Future research will focus on the potentially detrimental effect of high amounts of ozone on the soil bacteria community.
