Advancements in 3D Printed Concrete

This research will focus on the extrusion characterization of 3-D printable cementitious binders to optimize the printing process for on-site applications. A pressure cell setup was fabricated and used to determine the effect of nozzle size, volume, and mixture proportioning on the inlet/outlet pressure characteristics under ram extrusion. The extrusion pressure versus piston displacement results will be used to compare across different mixture designs to optimize the printing process for the desired output based on the material and geometry. The results will be used as guidelines toward further advancing the 3-D printing concrete technology.
